Happy fall, y’all. Summer may be over, but the fun is just getting started in Chucktown. Fall brings cooler weather and plenty of events that will keep the entire family busy and having fun. From fright nights to farmer’s markets, there will be a little something for every Charleson resident looking to step out and enjoy the new season. Here are just a few events happening in and around town.

Farmer’s Markets are in full swing, featuring unique local products and produce. The Mt. Pleasant Farmer’s Market is every Tuesday at Moultrie Middle School. The market will feature many food vendors, live music, and great produce. Tuesdays don’t work for you? That’s not a problem because the Charleston Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday at Marion Square in downtown Charleston. Support your local farmers by stopping by and seeing what they have to offer.

Boone Hall Fright Nights at Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant will return for seventeen days starting September 21. Three attractions will make any horror lover’s blood run cold. This is not your typical haunted house experience, and children under 12 are not recommended to go.

Folly Beach will be hosting its famous Mermaids and Matey’s street festival towards the end of September. The events start on September 28, also known as Salty Saturday. Center Street will be closed to make way for over 70 art and fashion vendors. There will also be three stages for local bands playing live music throughout the event. The day will end with a costume contest, giving you a chance to preview your Halloween costume, that is, if you decide to go as a mermaid or a pirate this year. On the festival’s second day, a sand sculpting competition will occur. Show off your creativity and sculpting skills because prizes will be awarded.

In October, there will be an event that will excite any hophead. The Charleston Beerfest will be returning on October 26 in Riverfront Park. The event will host dozens of local breweries as well as some from other parts of the country. The fest will have food trucks and craft vendors, so come on down and grab a cold one.

Of course, we know that every day is Children’s Day, but on October 20th, Mt Pleasant will host its 37th annual Children’s Day Festival. The events will occur between 12 pm to 5 pm at the Park West Recreation Complex. Some attractions your little ones will look forward to are carnival rides, putt-putt, inflatable slides, and pony rides.

If you’re an art lover, you won’t want to miss the 40th annual MOJA Art Festival. This eleven-day event celebrates African-American and Caribbean artworks in the Charleston area. Along with a plethora of breathtaking visual artworks, the festival will also feature many fantastic musicians, such as Iba MaHr and Hank Bilal. Another big name coming to the festival is famous actor Marlon Wayans, who is performing comedy on October 4th. The festival begins on September 26th and ends on October 6th, and the events will take place throughout downtown Charleston. This festival always brings so much to our charming city, so make sure to check it out.

We know the Charleston area is always full of fun things to do, and this coming fall is no exception. There really will be a little something for everyone. Whether you want to enjoy farm-fresh products while listening to local musicians or get your adrenaline pumping, these events will ensure you are never bored. We look forward to seeing you all out there. Have a great start to your fall season.
